Should I get a new computer yes or no?

Maybe the question sounds stupid to one or the other. But I'm considering getting a new computer. At the same time, however, I'm not sure whether the effort would be worth it.

I currently have a 13 year old Acer laptop with a 1.6 GHz processor and an ati radeon x1200series etc. Has. Now it is so that I can't watch more than 360p smoothly with the laptop series on Netflix or video on Youtube and it is no longer so fast. I could access my mobile phone to watch Netflix & Youtube with better quality, but at some point the battery will also run out and it shouldn't be used during the charging process. Plus, watching your series on a small screen isn't great either.

Should I buy a new computer, of course, built myself, it would cost around 700 euro with monitor and co. The money would have been available, but as I said, I'm not sure whether it would be worth it. I will also play 2 to 3 games from time to time but not hardcore-wise every day.

So what do you think I should do Please also explain why.

Self-built of course

What is "natural" about it? Apart from the fact that you didn't build your old notebook yourself, there are people here who put a PC together without having a clue and hope that they will switch it on afterwards and that everything will work straight away because they have no idea what to do when there are problems.

We certainly agree that your old carrot is junk. But how much money you have and how important a decent computer is to you can only be judged by yourself.

Te

It now depends on the games. You can watch Netflix with any smart TV, so you get away much cheaper if the notebook is otherwise enough.

Bo

If you just want to surf just get a tablet…

You can get the Fire Tablets from Amazon in offers like Black Friday for less than 100 euro, including the 10 "version.

They have longer battery life and the panels and boxes are better than laptops for the price.

wo

The old Acer part is not fun for you and you are asking the question here - so you definitely want a new computer. If your demands are not too high, you can either get a good used computer for 300 or assemble one yourself for 500.

ne

Anyone can put a few pieces together, nothing is difficult. My grandpa would do it myself.

li

And if it doesn't work then does your grandpa know what to do? Assembling is easy, you can't find mistakes without basic knowledge or experience.

ne

Debugging isn't the biggest problem either. Simply step by step. There are enough people on the internet who would like to help you (e.g. Here ^^)

And btw. Yes, my grandpa would manage it because he spent a large part of his work with PCs (repairs etc. At that time everything was a little different ^ - ^). But it wasn't meant like that

li

Often represented here are e.g. Mainboards with old BIOS, wrong RAM configuration or wrong assignment of the front connections. Without prior knowledge, very few people can figure it out and from a distance it is usually quite a bit of a guesswork, because most of them deal with information very sparingly and something like that turns out after 30 questions.

Just a complete list of the parts + a photo of the board would be a lot easier, but nobody does. These are then questions like "PC is not an issue, what to do. I have an i7."

ne

If you reassemble the PC, you don't just roll the parts, but look beforehand to see what fits. There are hundreds of builds working on YT…

700 euro is highly valued, but you could buy hardware suitable for gaming.

For less than 500 euro you get future-proof office hardware, a decent monitor and wireless mouse / keyboard combo. Nothing special, but enough: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=WL-1772119

Gambling is possible if you only play Minecraft or the like. Play, but not particularly well.

I would warmly recommend you if the gaming is in the background. Otherwise, just grab the TV, it's cheaper.

"I will also play 2 to 3 games from time to time but not hardcore-wise every day."

Gets difficult with a tablet.

Bo

Well, no harder than a twelve year old laptop.

Qu

But you suggest getting a new device. This factor should then be taken into account when purchasing a new one.

And it will very well run worse because of a different operating system. The desired 3 games will certainly not run on it.

Bo

If the focus is clearly on surfing and mobility, then a tablet, especially one that you can get for a tenth of your budget, makes more sense.

In addition, the FS has never specified what it actually wants to play, only that it does not have a high priority and there are a lot of very popular mobile games (e.g. Minecraft or Among Us).

I agree.

I only partially agree with that. This information was available from the start:

I will also play 2 to 3 games from time to time but not hardcore-wise every day.

If this information is not enough for you: ask which games are.
His answer to that:

Arc survival, detroit become human, watch dogs

Even if the parts basically fit together, that doesn't mean that you switch on and run after plugging them together. Just let the screen stay black. Why is it? It is conceivable that he did not plug in the additional power plug for the CPU. Or he has plugged the monitor into the socket on the mainboard even though he has installed a graphics card. Or the graphics card is slightly crooked in the PCIe slot. Or or or. It is even possible that a component is not working. Possible, but not certain, and if so, the next question would be which one.

What should someone who has no idea about PC hardware do at this point? Which YT video helps him solve "screen stays black"?

ne

There are enough open threads on the internet on the subject. Just read through and you will find a solution

ma

At the moment when a bug is special, yes. But something general like "Screen stays black" can have a thousand causes. You can read as much as you want; You will not find a sensible approach (unless you read enough to have acquired a solid level of expertise by yourself).

As a rule, the first question with such an error pattern is: What was the history, how did it come about? But if the answer to that is: "I put the PC back together; it has never worked before" - well, then you didn't even know where to start. You can't advise someone like that on girlfriend, except to go to someone who has a clue.
