Notebook screen stays black on Acer Aspire 8730?

The screen on my Acer Aspire 8730 is black. No matter what you do, it stays black. I also connected it to an external monitor, but it still stays black. The laptop screen stays black, but it lights up when you press the start button the LEDs and the fan also go on as usual. Now I did some research on the Internet and it said that my graphics chip was broken. Could that be true, because when I press Fn + F4 and also Fn + F7 a beep appears.

In principle, everything can be. It's always bad to say from a distance.

Have a look in the sequence it beeps (for example 3 short, 2 long, 3 short), then you see which BIOS is on the computer and what the corresponding beep says.

If you don't find anything, write the order down here somewhere, I'll see if I can find something.

But all in one: if broken then broken. Remove the Hdd or, if necessary, the Ssd and get a replacement… My tip: Notebooks are for on the go, better get a desktop, because if it has something, you can still remove the parts yourself… Even without much knowledge.

Dr

First of all thanks for your tip. So if I press Fn + F4 and also Fn + F7, a long beep appears once and the Phoenix BIOS is on my laptop

If the ext. Monitor also remains black, then the graphics card is definitely defective. Advantage: the card can be exchanged. (Ebay, Amazon, etc.)

Dr

Ok, thanks for their help. I also asked other people what was wrong with my laptop, and they said that the mainboard had to be replaced, but why should the mainboard be broken when the cooler and the LED at start-up work as usual function. So you are sure that it is the graphics card and if so, then all I have to do is replace the graphics card.

Bo

Sounds difficult like a graphic chip (no video) … You can have it repaired, but if it's not a high-end Alienware, it's less worthwhile. Lg

Dr

Ok, but do I have to change the graphics card or the graphics chip or is it the same?

Bo

Basically the same, the difference is only one card is bigger, usually has more power in comparison but also uses a lot more. Everything you don't want in a notebook, that's why only one chipset is used… In short: let's call it gpu, that's what matters.

I wouldn't change anything, just keep the hard drive or ssd, you can use it again in the end. But don't just throw it away, ram out beforehand and depending on how old the battery is, it may also be out… You can usually get everything back to you.

You can get new used notebooks for less than 100 euro with a bit of power…

There are many indications of this. Board would have to be exchanged if it were a graphics chip (soldered). You can't be 100% sure. I would change the graphics card.
