I have a notebook from around 2013. Windows 8 was included with it. But I've had Windows 10 for a long time. I took a look and saw that there was a BIOS update from 2016. But this is only available for Win 8 and Win 8.1. Can I still do that? If so, which of the two operating systems should I choose?
This is only the information about the operating system under which the software runs, which then carries out the BIOS update. If it is for Windows 8.x, it should also work fine under Windows 10. Otherwise, the programs usually log in and refuse to continue working.

Your notebook is a bit older and in 2016 Windows 10 was only 1 year on the market. Because of the age of your notebook, the manufacturer did not deliver an "official" tool. Which in itself doesn't really matter.
With the downloaded tool "only" the BIOS / Uefi is flashed. The application must be run under Windows, but the update itself has nothing to do with the OS itself. It is only about the functionality of the tool.
Download the BIOS update from the manufacturer's website
Create a backup of the current BIOS with the flash tool
Flash your bios with the update
If the flashing was successful, restart the notebook once
If the flashing was faulty, restore the backup and only then restart
You should definitely consider the last two points. If you don't do that and "shoots" your bios in the process, you can actually throw the notebook in the electronic scrap. At least the built-in motherboard.
Basically:
If you have no problems with the computer and everything works, I would not do a bios update. The risk is rather low, but it does exist.
