You all know that. If again go around emails where any extortionist has secretly watched over the camera from the laptop and wants to have money.
I know that these are usually empty threats and are simply sent around in masses hoping that whoever falls for it.
But how likely would it be that someone actually hacks you and either accesses data on the computer and uploads them somewhere or just films them or whatever. (as in this Black Mirror episode)
Is that likely or not?
I'm thinking of whether I'm anything private on a computer without internet access deposit. Is this paranoid or does this safety measure have its authority?
I also thought of Black Mirror…
Probability is very low. For security, it is enough to stick the camera over… Can be removed if you need them.
No one will receive the data from your PC unless you are completely negligent on the internet…
But it can also make sense to have a PC without Internet access, where you look at his dirty photos, there are quite safe…
So basically it's very harsh to be hacked when:
You have an acceptable password (capital letters, lowercase letters, special characters and numbers with a length of at least 8 characters - NOT a logical word sequence).
You DO NOT install any software where you are not sure what else you are doing. There are various freeware that allegedly serves only one purpose (for example, flac in. Mp3 convert) in the background but otherwise do something.
You DO NOT own any software that you got for free, which actually costs something. So cracks.
You are not a profitable destination. Most hackers want something from their work. If that is not guaranteed in advance, you're probably. Not "chop-worth".
You are relatively good with PC and internet. Or if you know which links you should rather not click.
It also depends on how you deal with your data.
Should your password be the name of your dog, your birthday, etc… And you are on a social network like Facebook and there are some tips for your password. Logical phrases are always tried first!
Regardless, of course, you can put Anything Private, Sensitive, or Criminal Offline Anywhere (If you're sharing your PC with someone I'd do that so-called 100%).
I do not know what you do with your valuables, personal valuable stuff but I (and I think I'm not alone with that) pack that into a safe or lockable compartment or at least a special place.
Why not with special data?
- I'll crack 8 characters in 1 hour, the string or the name of your dog is sausage 😉
- Crack software is not any more dangerous than others
I want to see that with a complete UTF-8 character set. Brutforce has long been obsolete xD
All cases, of which I have details, have affected only individual accounts and were grossly negligent: So Pfishing Mail not only opened, but also even entered the password on a fake page, or the system message released: program wants to install xyz! Or no virus protection installed.
You should be paranoid if you get an email that can't be assigned exactly. For example A letter from the bank, where you are indeed a customer, but no reference to a transaction, my name does not know and often also has spelling mistakes.
So, if you've internalized a certain amount of security thinking, installed a virus scanner, and regularly run system updates (including those from your browser), then you have little to fear. A regular backup should, however, be a matter of course. And not only regularly back up the data and override the last backup, but also keep an older backup. If a mistake has crept in, be it because you deleted something yourself or not, then you can still fall back on the older version.
And keep the backup (stick or exterme hard drive) in a safe place, that a thief does not take along the HDU lying on the PC, or in case of a fire is still a backup elsewhere.
