Hi. If I want to call my office number from home, can I make calls with a softphone app on a PC / laptop if everything is set up accordingly? Do incoming calls only come through when the PC or laptop is switched on or does that not matter?
You can make calls with a softphone under the following conditions:
Your router supports the forwarding of incoming calls via IP packets. In that case, you can forward your own phone numbers to your computer, but you can only use your own phone numbers that your provider makes available to you. In this case, the softphone on your computer will ring (of course only if it is switched on and the program is running), and all other telephones to which you have assigned this number in the router will also ring.
You can purchase a telephone number from the softphone software provider, via which you can then be reached via the Internet and regardless of your network provider. It doesn't matter in which network you operate your computer, as long as you have internet access. Of course, your softphone only rings here if your computer is switched on and the program is running.
