It depends, but tends to be Windows.
You can program pretty much anything with it.
I recently voted Apple because it is based on Unix.
I recommend Linux
because it's safer.
If there's a tool for Windows only, you can also use a Windows virtual machine
Linux Ubuntu is not bad either.
Partly depends on the language. Overall, you are in good hands with Windows.
Apple is definitely not Linux based. Apple is a company and the operating systems OSX and iOS are based on Unix (especially FreeBSD). Linux, on the other hand, is unixoid, but does not contain a line of Unix code.
