Install Laptop Windows 10 if Windows XP is on it before is it even eatable?
In most cases, the performance of the hardware on older computers is not enough for the hungry W10.
For the effective and virus-safe use of the old computer Mint Cinnamon or Mint XFCE (both free and free of charge on linuxmint.com) are best suited. The operation is like XP - so suitable for beginners. A virus scanner is not needed according to BSI for high-quality operating systems.
The striking disadvantages of W10 (spying, meager features, dependencies, insecure, user-unfriendly, unfree, source code secret…) do not please the computer user.
I can also recommend to install Cloudready. Then the laptop is turned into a Chromebook for free.
Do the following with another computer:
Install this tool: https://www.balena.io/...io/etcher/ This allows you to create bootable sticks from iso, img and bin files.
Download Cloudready: https://davrt8itj6cgg.cloudfront.net/cloudready-free-72.4.62-32-bit/cloudready-free-72.4.62-32-bit.zip Then unpack the zip. You will receive an img or bin file.
Insert a blank formatted USB stick and start the installed tool. Then select the img or bin file, select the stick and click on Flash.
When done, boot that stick into the laptop where Windows XP is on it.
Just follow the instructions of the installer. He immediately sets up the WLAN and offers the possibility to delete the hard disk. When the installation is complete, the system restarts. Then just sign in with the Google Account. In the browser settings in the section Plugins you can install Flash, Codecs and Widevine with just one click. Then you can also use DRM-protected content. Restart and your Chromebook is ready.
The voice controls OK Google and Google Cloud Print are also available.
