There have been useful alternatives for a long time that are in no way inferior to Microsoft's paid Office Suite. Above all, I can recommend the free LibreOffice. The range of functions is at least identical in the basic functions and the free Office Suite is actually sufficient for private use.

As a student… A lot cheaper. But Microsoft wants to see a pupil, student ID. Can't be that hard to get.
And. Mine is free. But Microsoft has made some money.

Give Microsoft a call. Student version. You can pay for that too.
