Why does my computer regularly have no sound?

No sound comes regularly from my laptop. All drivers are installed, full volume, not on mute or whatever. If I turn the sound from the speaker off and on again in the control panel, it works again, but when I pause a video and play it again, the sound is often off again.

Google isn't spewing out anything useful. Anyone have any idea why this could be?

Sound card junk?
