Is it normal for the CPU temperature of my gaming laptop to reach 100 degrees. As soon as I play more powerful games, the temperature goes up and then stays in the 95-98 degrees range. There have not yet been any crashes.

The CPU: Intel Core i5 7200U

wi

No that is not normal and much too hot.

Limit the FPS so that there's less to do for Proz and Graka or expect to need a new lapi within days to months.

po

What graphics card does the laptop have?
It's not uncommon for laptops to get incredibly hot when under load, simply because laptops aren't really for gaming, even if it says on them.
You could counteract this by getting an external fan for the laptop

Mo

OK, thank you, I'll set the fps lower from now on and watch the temperature. What temperature would be normal?

Mo

Have a GTX 950M, I also know that it is not exactly the latest graphics card.

Be

That is already very warm, maybe check whether there's a lot of dust or something in the air inlets and that they are not covered if you use the device around bed or the like.

However, cooling can often be a problem with laptops.

pt

So really with most it is mostly between 60-80 that is normal and good

Be

A modern CPU can easily reach a temperature of 60c, which would not be unusual, even with sufficient cooling.

po

What games do you play with it?

Ch

100 C ° still sounds like too much.

Be

Undoubtedly, the comment was only about the statement with 60c

Mo

GTA V, Minecraft, Fortnite (rather rare), World of Tanks, Star wars Battelfront 2 and a few others.

Ch

At Sims, my CPU is also around 60C °. My father said that's just about okay.

Ar

A CPU can get up to 100 ° C, then it clocks down or switches off completely because it becomes too dangerous from there.

Ar

Around 100 ° C is a bit too much. Around 90-95 ° C can happen with extremely powerful devices. Your laptop seems to be a bit older to me. So the cooling system should be cleaned slowly and the WLP should also be replaced. If you are not particularly gifted at handicrafts, you should have this done by a specialist workshop / dealer (against an estimate / price request).
