Hi
I have a hp notebook and a hp netbook, both with win10.
I would like to reset the netbook to Windows xp.
On the back there's a product key, I have one more and another with installation cd.
Both devices have no cd ROM drive and I do not have a usb stick.
Instead, however, an external and an old iPod classic with 80gb.
Is there any way for me to install xp on the netbook?
Or rather buy a new one?
Yes, you could connect an external DVD drive via the USB.
What is your excuse for not having a (free?) USB stick? Everyone has one. If you say so, I'll assume that a connection would be available. USB sticks you get thrown. Is ISO of XP I think not even 650MB and tutorials on how to boot from USB and installed there are heaps on the net. A little tricky, but not too tricky. Instead of trying to buy new laptops. Ok, then do it.
Such a nonsense, completely misrepresented by you!
I do not have a usb stick and now I want to buy a net extra.
The netbook is ancient, so the question of because of a new purchase.
Thought it also works with an external…
Tricky or not, no matter. That's why I asked yes instead of simply buying new.
Do not be so biased and negative about things.
An old drive, I have actually still but to connect to that, I probably need an adapter?
Is this synonymous with a sd card? Have just found a 1gb

Ui… You're asking something. If you have an external USB CD drive, you can connect it to the netbook. Then all you need is a Windows XP CD. With a USB stick but that is much better.
One more method: Do both devices have a LAN port? Do you have a switch? Then you could also boot the ISO file via network. There's a simple program for this: AOMEI PXE SERVER. The ISO may not be larger than 1.4 GB in my opinion.
But you will encounter a problem: If the notebook is newer than 2008, it will be very difficult to find drivers for Windows XP. If it has more than 3GB of RAM, XP can't address that as a 32-bit Windows. Try something around, that will be something. I would rather advise to a VM. PS: USB sticks with 2Gb capacity you get today quasi nachhergeschmissen.
Hi
Thank you for your answer!
What does VM mean? 😅
I'm an absolute layman but I want to get it myself and without having to buy anything else!
VM means virtual machine. This will allow you to run Windows XP directly on Windows 10.
The whole thing is not very difficult. The program VirtualBox is also free, you only need an XP installation medium. Once you have everything together, you need to install the program. Then you have to create a new VM. Unfortunately, I can't post links, but on Google and YouTube there are more than enough results under the search term "Windows XP in VirtualBox".
In addition, it is also safer, since support for XP already expired in 2014.
