The laptop from my father (HP ProBook 650 G1 Notebook PC), which he had been able to use error-free for 6 years, now gave the message "BootDevice Not Found […] Hard Disk - (3F0)" when starting a few days ago.
I've already tried everything that HP suggests: https://support.hp.com/.../c02672423
-Step 1: Perform a hardware reset
-> Problem remains
-Step 2: restore the BIOS to its default settings
-> Problem remains
-Step 3: Test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
-> No problem found
except for Step 4 and Step 5, because I don't like to open the laptop with Sealed Screws and I don't know how I can create a backup without getting into the operating system.
I have also seen that this problem has been reported more often on this platform, but no answers have yet helped me, which is why I'm now asking the question again myself.
In addition, my BIOS looks very different from what I found on YT ("Current system BIOS version: L77 Ver. 01.39"). And before I can even enter the BIOS setup, I'm always first redirected to the system diagnostics (although I have not selected it at all), then have to end it, first come into the BIOS and only then am forced to enter the Windows password or continue as a guest. I find that a little strange, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
With this error message and the tests you performed, I would assume that the partition table is defective.
You could make a USB stick with Knoppix, boot it and then see what the partition table of the hard disk says or what Knoppix sees from the disk.
Shake the thing or screw it on and plug the FP out and back in again.
A BIOS password is not a standard. Fix that
