Convert black printing to color printing?

The cartridges on my HP laser printer are almost empty. Then I got a notification that somehow implied that I can set the printer to print the next 500 sheets or so in black and white. Now the cartridges are there, much faster than expected and the printer still prints in black and white, understandably. How do I get that reset? Even if I want color printing on my laptop, the printer happily prints black and white.

Have you ever looked at or changed the settings directly on your printer?

I can't find anything about it😅
