I bought a cheap laptop "on the go" for office applications. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled but not activated. I still have a product key from a Windows 7 Pro that is no longer in use. Can I activate Windows 10 with this key or do I have to buy a new product key specifically for WIN10 Home?
Give it a try - enter the product key and Windows will show whether it is valid or not.
Yes, that should work.
It's still free. The key should not be entered in the Windows 10 installation wizard, but when the installation of Windows 10 is completed in the activation wizard. You will then have Windows 10 Pro.
I also recommend logging into Windows 10 beforehand with the Microsoft account if you have one. Otherwise create one. The activation is then permanently saved in there.
If you have to reinstall Windows 10, simply log back into Windows 10 with your Microsoft account. Then it is automatically activated again. You no longer have to enter the key.
Try it.
Officially, there's no longer any claim - but "talks" still works.
So testing costs nothing.
You can still buy.
Yes you can, don't waste money on a new key.
