Would you buy a new laptop after 10 years, even though you are still satisfied with the old one - just so you are on a more modern level?
I do not, because if he still works great and you can do everything you want to do on your laptop, you do not need a new one. First of all, this is expensive and secondly not environmentally conscious and typical of our consumer society. Why do we have to buy something when we do not need it? I hope you understand my point of view. Find out how many people die for a laptop or a cell phone. And how "environmentally aware" the whole thing is. If it makes you happy, buy it, but not just to make it look modern or cool, like the people who buy a new smartphone every year, because it's just in there. (That's not it in a year anyway)
The question fits exactly to me.
I'm writing you from a 13 year old HP Elitebook 17 inch with 4 GB Ram.
This old box works flawlessly and smoothly. Print via WLAN. Streaming videos… No problem.
The only thing I ever gave him is a 512 SSD from Samsung.
Best notebook in the world. Originally designed for Autocad.
I will not let you down.
3 years ago I once cleaned the fan and cooling fins. That was it.
Runs with win 7 pro
I still have an old laptop from 2008 with an Intel Core2 Quad, 4GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, nvidia graphics and DVD burner. It was Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit. When the support of Windows Vista was discontinued in 2017, I installed the Linux distribution Lubuntu on it. It works like a rocket. By comparison, Windows is a lame duck. Since the purchase of this laptop, I've always set aside 40 euro per month. I do that until this laptop is completely broken. Then I buy a new one.
P.S. From 2020, the support of Windows 7 will be discontinued. If you still have Windows 7, I also recommend installing the Linux distribution Lubuntu.
Here is the download of the current stable long-term support version of Lubuntu:
32bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...p-i386.iso If the PC / laptop has less than 4GB of RAM installed.
64bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...-amd64.iso When the PC / Laptop has 4GB of RAM or more installed.
