Are there old laptops with new components?

I love old thinkpads and I wanted to ask if you know videos where people equip such old devices with new components. Have times with linus tech tips with an apple II pc seen but never with (for example) a thinkpad. This is of course extremely difficult, maybe even impossible, but still wanted to ask.

You do not need to "tune" Thinkpads - they can do it from scratch.

For example Is it possible to simply screw in a HDD or SSD instead of a CD drive? Furthermore, the things are not intended to blab, but to work properly.

Re

I do not mean SSD / HDD replacement I'm talking about CPU / GPU "transplantation" 😬

So with motherboard and all the trimmings

pr

Technically not possible because in a notebook really everything depends on a board. The Apple2 is also a bread box - it fits in a lot of technology easily.

Re

So you could not somehow connect such an old thinkpad screen with a newer notebook motherboard? For what reasons would not that work? Do not know me out there (with soldering etc)

pr

From soldering off completely a display has a driver module - as this is addressed (protocol) keep the manufacturers to themselves - so you have schonmal no way to feed the thing somehow.

Fl

For laptops, this is quite simple - build a thin tablet instead of a display (measure exactly beforehand, use the Dremel if necessary to rework the areas - feed it with Sugru.
With the keyboard and especially with the touchpad is that a thing.
If you find a Bluetooth keyboard that also has the same occupancy…
Otherwise tinker- Arduino with Bluetooth extension (or Pic, or…) and then adjust the ports of the keyboard to the IOs (soldering…)
If you use the space of the old drives etc for power banks, then you can really amaze.

Sh

There are also new Thinkpads - with new technology.

So why bother putting new technology into an old Thinkpad?

Go to a shop and buy a current model.

I just like the thick design with the old 800x600 display
