Just uninstall McAfee, at the latest then the Windows Defender will be able to take over the virus protection again. Even when inactive, McAfee is of course an unnecessary ballast and potential brake pad in the system.
If several antivirus programs run at the same time, the system can of course run slower, but if McAfee does not work for you anymore (not in the background / as a slimmed-down version or so) that should not be a problem.
