Question about router / bridge / repeater?

I have a LAN socket (dormitory) in my room. I can connect this LAN either to my PC or to my repeater. My PC doesn't have Wi-Fi.

I'm looking for a solution for how I can supply PC and cell phone / laptop with Internet at the same time, but I'm not familiar with it and do not know what I need.

I need a repeater with LAN input and output, right? I didn't find anything like that on Amazon.

Can someone tell me exactly what I'm looking for? Does it have a special name?

I see 2 options:

a) you buy a USB WLAN stick and bring the PC into the network of your repeater,

b) you get a used Fritz! Box (or another WLAN router) with at least 2 LAN connections and set it up as an access point.

With a bridge from LAN to WLAN / LAN / USB such as This one here:

https://www.amazon.de/...01MY5JIJ0/

You can always use this so LAN / WLAN / USB.

Depending on how the internet connection is, all sources can be used:

LAN and WLAN but also a surf stick or cell phone or another PC / laptop…

You need a second LAN connection: The solution is a LAN switch.

You also want Wi-Fi: solution is a Wi-Fi access point (AP)

This is available as 1 device, called "WLAN router", both contain a WLAN access point and a switch. The WLAN router does not have to have an internal modem.

There are mini routers, but these often only have 1 LAN port, and if you operate this as an access point, the LAN socket and the only LAN port on the router are assigned. Problem remains, you no longer have a free LAN port for your PC.

So you need a WLAN router that has at least 2 LAN connections (typically 4 LAN connections are installed in routers).

If it should be as cheap as possible (~ 20 euro) without expensive frills, then the TL-WR841N WLAN router from TP-Link is the inexpensive solution (LAN only 100 Mbit / s).

He is e.g. Available here: https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/...er+300mbit

If, on the other hand, it should be something better in quality and also have top modern properties (easy to understand, super-fast WLAN and GBit LAN ports, and much more), the FritzBox 4040 from AVM is a very good WLAN router for this purpose.

PS:

The FritzBox 4020 is the "little brother" of the 4040, is cheaper and slower.

Oh yes, a tip:

Just ask neighbors (or the administration) what is allowed or not allowed or what they do. You will get valuable information.

You already have a repeater, then a LAN switch would be sufficient.

Ma

Here is a GBit switch
