What to do if you have a virus

When I was surfing the internet as normal, a message suddenly came up that I should call a number or else my laptop would be blocked within the next 5 minutes. Everything except my internet browser still works. I then shut down and restarted my laptop but the browser remained open and there's nothing I can do about it.

First switch off the internet on your laptop

Close the website. On the cross on the top right.

It's just advertising. Not a virus.

Then press CTRL + ALT + REMOVE on Task Manager and then you will normally see the browser and select the one and press End Task.

Close the browser using the Task Manager (right-click on the free area in the task bar and then select TaskManager in the menu). Then you do a complete virus scan and delete your browser history! And get yourself a proper popup blocker!

Then disconnect the PC from the Internet and restart the browser. If it still does not work, you will have to use a different browser in the future

I would NOT call the number, it would only lead you to so-called tech scammers, who would then tell you about the horse and give you remote access using Windows standard tools ("dir / s" in the cmd console is very popular) want to pretend that your PC is infected with viruses. In the worst case, they will also set you a "SysKey" password and you will no longer be able to use your PC.

This is by no means a virus, they just want to scare you (which obviously worked😅) and then install the virus as a "solution"…

Java scripts are now executed on your browser (completely normal and on almost every website like this, but with different functions) which do not allow you to close the browser etc (should appear "credible")

The solution? Quite simply, press ctrl (shift) + alt + del and select Task Manager, there you will end the process called Chrome (or whatever you use for a browser…) then you can continue to use it as normal.

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. I shut down the laptop about 20 minutes ago and when I opened it again I could close the window and I can no longer see anything conspicuous. Do I still have to do something to make sure that nothing has happened?
