Word 2013 on my computer, I can easily crop images just double-click on the image then the cropping icon on the top left will be displayed the same.

However, on my laptop that owns the same word (2013), this freehand icon just does not appear?

Does anyone know?

What does Word have to do with pictures? There's probably a "picture software" in charge.

Look in your computer which Standardapp or program is set for the image reproduction. That must be exactly the same with the laptop.

Works well with Word…

Does anyone know a good picture editing software? The free is?

Gimp e.g.

This is possibly due to the image format. Microsoft writes: The Crop function is not available for vector graphics such as Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Adobe Illustrator Graphics (AI), Windows Metafile Format (WMF), and Vector Drawing File (DRW).

Gimp - but you need time. Do it in Word with png, jpg, bmp… Formats that works too.
