I want to buy a MacBook Air for university. Now I ask myself, should I take 8 or 16 GB RAM, 256 / 512GB SSD, Intel i3 / i5 Core? I've never had a laptop or a MacBook. I would like to be able to use it fluidly for several years not only for university but also for leisure time e.g. Watching videos or series and so on and more but no gaming. I also wonder when should I buy it? So when are the prices cheapest? I can wait another year because I'm not in such a hurry.
For Uni + Videos & Internet, the cheaper option is sufficient. There are seldom real offers at Apple. At the end of the month it's "Black Friday" again, but it won't be cheaper there either.
Don't buy a Macbook Air, you get far better Windows devices for significantly less money
This Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, for example

Or even this IdeaPad

Or with a touch, this Yoga 6

Ram 16GB SSD 256GB
Since an SSD is not reliable in the long run, I would get an external 2TB WD HDD early on and save the system and data there. The difference between 8GB and 16GB is spectacular.
Don't buy yet!
There are new MacBooks from Apple on Tuesday with much faster processors that will make Windows laptops look old:

But not if you get a Windows laptop for the same price.
