Headphones only work sometimes on a laptop?

My old samsung corded headphones are still functional, they only work sometimes on my cell phone (s 10) but on my laptop. Most of the time, the sound comes from the laptop speakers. Rarely through the headphones. Did someone have such a problem and how can you solve it?
