Connect the iPhone 8 to the router by cable?

Please help an old grandpa from the Scart and VHS era how to connect an IPhone 8 to a router via cable to surf the Internet. Briefly to explain, it is a company iPhone with limited volume, with which I do not want to go to the Internet via WLAN at home under any circumstances. So LAN is all the rage. There are too many adapters. Would you please help me make the right choice? Second question, can you connect the adapter to e.g. Connect a 5 meter long cable to the notebook, or am I restricted with regard to the maximum length? I once read that the adapter and iphone should be close to the notebook, but who knows what exactly it was about.
