At some point it stopped working. After complete deinstallation I downloaded at (Download) but there's always a note: the control panel could not be opened.

The current versions of Skype simply do not support Vista anymore. Until recently, you could still install here with an old Skype Classic version 7.41.0.101 on XP and Vista. Unfortunately, since 1 February this year, also a registration with Skype is no longer possible. Here the servers were switched off with the old protocol.

The only chance to be able to use the old computer because it will probably no longer be good for Windows10, Linux. These operating systems, no matter which distribution you choose, support older hardware, but also a current Skype version.

Alternative: Only use Skype on your smartphone.

I have this problem with XP.

have from / windows / … / user / "my account / application / skype

everything copied to USB.

Then I installed Windows 7, images are for example here:

https://winfuture.de/...,3291.html

From Win Prof. Create an Image with all Windoows How? Eg here:

https://www.trojaner-board.de/100776-windows-7-iso-download.html

Install now

Skype to C: / Users / "Your User Nama" / AppData /

copy as Skype.

Shut down the Ubdates and get the updates pack and start again until the program does not install anything anymore.

Now permanently activate:

Do not forget "Remove-Watermark"

Now it should work. But if PopsUps still come with a guarantee that you do not have an original version, then:

Input request of programs → start accessories as administrator,

then

Start sfc / SCANNOW.

This fixes some bugs, but unfortunately reinstalls the files (slui.exe, sppcsvvc.exe, etc.).

So delete again - now it's the same with delete, because you already have the access rights.

It's also good to make a few changes:

https://www.antary.de/2009/12/31/windows-7-ordneransicht-fuer-alle-ordner-setzen/

Get a new version of Skype for example here:

https://www.skype.com/...get-skype/

Install: specify old Skype user name and password.

Forgot password, change Microsoft account password,

You have to enter names of old Skype friends and wait about 24 hours for security code.

Old friends are listed in your Skype folder in a .xml file.

Have fun.

Shareveren you can supposedly also different:

There's no support for Windows Vista since 2017.

I would install a Linux distribution on the laptop For example, Lubuntu. Here is the download of the ISO: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...-amd64.iso This is the current stable long-term support version.

Then install this tool under Windows Vista https://unetbootin.github.io/ and thus flash the ISO on a blank formatted USB stick. When finished, stick the stick, restart the laptop and immediately press F12 or Esc (if necessary several times). Now you are in the boot menu and you can boot the stick. Just follow the instructions of the wizard. He sets up the Wi-Fi right now. To do this, have network keys ready. With the installation type one should select the point hard disk and install Lubuntu install. I recommend a full installation. The latest Firefox, Libreoffice, multimedia components and tools will be installed right away. When the installation is complete, the system restarts. When the desktop appears, the update manager logs in. Install these updates. The update manager cares not only about the system, but also about the installed programs. You do not have to update each program individually like Windows. The updating can also be completely automated so that it runs in the background.

How to install programs: Start Menu> System Tools> Software. This is like an Appstore and is also served. There you can also uninstall programs.

The latest version of Skype is also available for Linux: https://go.skype.com/...nux-64.deb Just double-click after download. The operation is identical to the Windows version. You can find it in the start menu> Internet> Skype.

Lubuntu goes off like a rocket and scratch even on such an old device hardly s.den system resources. By comparison, Windows is a lame duck.
