I've been playing Sims 3 on my Windows 10 laptop for ages. However, when it crashed more and more and my laptop worked slower and slower, I had it completely rebuilt by my uncle. Immediately afterwards I wanted to install the game again, which also worked smoothly at first. However, just before I confirmed the installation, I was told to install a small utility or update (that's how I did not read it) to get the most out of my game. I figured that was not a bad idea and trusted in the good nature of this program. When I tried to start Sims 3 after that, the laptop did not respond. No window was opened, no problem displayed… Nothing. Days after that I tried it again, but then I was asked if I want to delete all existing contents of The Sims 3. First, I declined and tried uninstalling the game through the system settings, then reinstalling it. The uninstall ran and was confirmed. Then I found the file Sims 3 but still in my list of programs again. I tried the question when reading the disc, but nothing happened. Now I can neither start nor delete it. What can one do in such a situation? I would be very happy to receive an answer. Especially because I've already interviewed two very computer-talented people who could not give me a solution.
Install over it again. And pay close attention to what is required during the installation.
I've tried that many times, but then I'm always asked the question of the deletion.
Dear Sims player,
first delete the installation directory to "Sims 3" from the hard disk (default path: C: \ Program Files \ Electronic Arts \ Sims 3). First save your savegames and then remove them from the corresponding directory. These can be found under the following path:
My Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 3 (Windows XP)
or.
Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 3 (Windows Vista)
Now remove the Windows registry entries from Sims 3:
1. Click on START → EXECUTE
2. Now enter REGEDIT and confirm with the RETURN key
3. Now the registry editor should have opened
4. Then you have to open the following folders (or subfolders) one after the other in the left half of the window:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall \
5. In the last UNINSTALL folder, find the key ("folder"): {C05D8CDB-417D-4335-A38C-A0659EDFD6B8}
6. This key must be deleted: select the key (= highlighted in blue) then press the DEL key
7. Delete the following folders:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Electronic Arts \ Sims \ The Sims 3
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ Sims3
8. After that you can quit Registry Editor (FILE / EXIT)
