Can you connect an internal drive to a notebook?

In advance: I know nothing about computers and stuff.

We bought a new notebook, but it doesn't have a CD drive. I know you could buy an external drive and then connect it with a cable, but I just have no way of getting one.

So I thought about getting the internal drive out of the old laptop and then somehow connecting it to the new notebook. Is that possible?

If that has the same connections that should actually work. But I could also imagine that the internal drive is plugged directly into a connector, without a cable. But you would need a cable because the drive from the old probably does not fit into the new one so that you can connect the internal drive externally. So you would have to have the right cables that you probably don't have.

If you have a suitable USB adapter lying around at home then yes…

There are adapters so that you can connect them via USB.

Simply enter HDD to USB or SSD to USB, depending on the type of hard drive you have.

Costs between 10 and 15 euro.

You just need a corresponding adapter from SATA to e.g. USB… Depending on the drive, also with extra power supply.

It makes no difference whether you order this adapter or an external drive
