Yes, he actually uses a Gigabit Ethernet adapter with a normal RJ45 connection. It is strange that this adapter is neither listed in your device manager, nor in your adapter options. The drivers should also be provided by Windows without further ado. I would look again in the BIOS if you were there, if the adapter is listed somewhere.
