Pc uses only 200Mbps despite 1gbps line?

When I plug my new Pc via Lan cable to my router, the speedtest doesn't get much more than 200Mbps. (It should be 1gbps). With my laptop this is not a problem either. If I use the same cable, it works fine. I've already tried everything from reinstalling the network adapter to updating the mainboard driver)

I really can't think of anything. Hopefully someone can help me here.

Do you have a SSD A slow HDD could not have enough write speed and limit that

Br

Speedtest and ssd have nothing to do with each other.

Br

What kind of motherboard do you have?

Va

Which Lan cable do you use on your PC?

Va

But if your HDD can only write 50MB / s, for example, then Internet will not bring you anything over 400MBit because the hard drive is not up to the task. It depends whether caching is in RAM or not, but you can't say that in general

Va

1GBit download / approx. 128MB / s some HDDS are already reaching their limits

Br

I have the MSI b450M PRO-VDH max

Br

I have an ssd that won't be the problem

Did you use a different port on the router for this connection to the PC?

With some routers, individual Ethernet connections can be put into a power-saving mode.

Then only 100Mbits / s and not up to 1000Mbits / s are transmitted via this port.

Then it may well be that the Lan cable used is not suitable. It should already be a CAT6 or CAT7 cable.

But you wrote that it would work on the laptop at full speed…

Have you ever tried another test page?

This one actually works quite reliably:

The lan cable is not the problem as described in the question, the 1gbps on the laptop only transfer the 1gbps on the lan cable

Br

Moin Martin. Yes, as I said, my laptop is running and everything is unlocked up to 1000Mbit / s. In your test I only got 120 Mbps…

Br

It must be due to my hardware. Is there maybe a limit somewhere that was set automatically? Maybe it's also on the mainboard. Up until a month ago everything was still normal. This is what confuses me

"New" PCs have all installed a gigabit network connection. So it shouldn't be that.

As I said, there's the possibility that the port used on the router is set to only 100Mbps (=> "Green mode").

Which router do you actually have there?

Here you have a description for the very common Fritz boxes:

Otherwise, look in the device manager…
