Files on an external SSD can only be opened under iPad OS?

I recently started using an iPad Pro 2020 for school. I work on different devices (mainly Windows PCs / laptops) and therefore have all my important documents on an external SSD. Now I've edited or just opened or created some documents on my new iPad. These were mostly PDFs. When I tried to open the files on my Windows PC, an error message appeared and the files could not be opened. The files were all hidden and even when I made them visible again, they could not be opened. A hidden folder named .spotlight-v100 also appeared. I was able to send the files to my PC from the iPad and then open them. Does anyone know why I can't open files directly on SSD and how to solve this problem.

What formatting (NTFS, FAT32) does the SSD have?

How can I find out?

Ly

On the PC: Right click on the hard drive in Explorer and on "Properties" then under "File system" it should be.

The file system is exFAT

Hm should actually go and be compatible. Is the hard drive broken? Which manufacturer?

Te

It's relatively new and all other files can be opened without any problems. The hard drive is from SanDisk (SanDisk extreme)
