I would like to buy an external monitor for my notebook. If the external monitor has a 21: 9 format, but my notebook is only 16: 9, do I have black borders or does the computer adapt the format? I have win10.

Ha

The computer then adjusts the format.

St

The computer adjusts the format.

If the graphics card supports 21: 9, the picture is displayed in 21: 9. For example, if you have OpenOffice open on the first monitor and Firefox on the second (the image is to be expanded), it will probably be displayed unstretched and without bars. If you mirror the image from the first monitor, there may be bars or the image is stretched by the computer or monitor.

Is an HD graphic in the 15 7200u.

The 7200U (or rather the iGPU built into it) should be able to output a picture in 21: 9.

Oh, you made a mistake, said i5.

Thanks for the answer.

As long as you expand the screen in Windows, the ratio doesn't matter. The entire screen can be used.

If you mirror your laptop screen, you will have black bars.

The i5 7200U only has one HDMI 1.4 port, which may cause problems.

At 1440p in 21: 9 format (3440 × 1440), HDMI 1.4 does not manage 60Hz. So you are 50Hz, if available, or limited to 30Hz. With FullHD / 1080p in 21: 9 format you have no problems.

If your notebook has a DisplayPort connection (mini or normal), you will have no problems with 3440 × 1440 @ 60.
