After the last update, when I started up my laptop I only ever had the option to select the keyboard layout and then the options Power off or Troubleshoot. Unfortunately I was not able to help with the troubleshooting I tried to repair by stick which did not work either. Just as I tried to reinstall Windows, which unfortunately ended only with an error message.

That does not sound good. It could be a hardware defect. Get a stick that will allow you to boot with minimal operating system (not Win 10, get something from a reputable source, search for emergency sticks). Also download a program for hardwarecheck, which you can start from the command line.

It's hard to say if the problem is Upadate or if there was a problem in the system before.

Normal procedure would be here: Play back from before the update and run the update again.

Possibly. Before the update, look for problems in the event log.

To continue using the calculator I would download, burn and boot from Mint. If Microsoft can't do that, Linux Mint is a mature free and easy to use solution.

Maybe that will not mature then no longer needed.
