Can I connect the Philips DVP3580 / 12 DVD player that has an HDMI port to my laptop and then watch movies?

cr

Yes you can

mi

Normal NO, as lappis usually have only one hdmi output and no input

Gu

I do not think so. The HDMI port is an output - no input on the laptop. When connected via e.g. USB you can of course play a video with the appropriate program.

Depends on which laptop, have already seen laptops where that works. Otherwise you're right

No, that will not work. This on the notebook is just an exit.

However, you can buy a USB DVD drive (Reader + Writer) and watch the movies via a software player:

Win10 has no working player on board (=> license reasons).

But the universally popular VLC player can be considered as a replacement. This can play DVDs easily. (Only protected bluerays could not.)
