Use a desktop PC as a docking station for a laptop?

I have at home a decent desktop PC (Win10 with 2 monitors) and now have the opportunity of my AG get HomeOffice. For this, I have to take my work laptop home with me.

Since I have a) little space at home and b) also wants to work comfortably and does not necessarily want to take additional money in hand (a docking station is not exactly free and a Umverkabelung is not quite my goal) I thought that My Desktop PC for the laptop but a docking station would have to be able to "simulate", but so far I have not found anything on the general search engines of the Web. (I assume that I'm missing "just" the right technical term to get the correct search results)

PS: I'm not allowed to install any software on the working laptop!

Does anyone have an idea here?

Thank you in advance

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. But maybe the keyword is what you are looking for "Remote Desktop"

One possibility would be that you integrate a switch into your network and can then transmit via Lan cable via remote data. This would have to buy only a switch and a LAN cable. If ports on the router are still free (Lan) synonymous with only a single Lan cable Implement this. I would avoid WlLan because this is often disturbed in the vicinity by other WLan users. Only the speed depends on the weakest components in the network. If you have one with only 100 M / Bit, everything runs at 100 M / Bit. Therefore, everything should be switched to 1000 M / bit (as G / Bit) and can. This also affects the LAN cable (Cat 5e at least it must be) and the switch (G / Bit). The shares of the folders can also make on your working laptop if you have the permissions. Otherwise, you have to share it on your home PC and edit the data from there, then pull it over on the laptop.

This is not going to work.

At least if it's a reasonable employer. And that seems to be him, since the laptop is to be used exclusively with the delivered programs.

The mixing of private and business is very problematic from a data protection point of view. Also for you as a user, you should want to have such a user agreement. Because there you have to give the employer access to your private rooms AND to your private computer.

But I do not see a "Umverkablung". You only need a free Ethernet port on a router / switch. Even reasonable things cost significantly less than 20 euro. Cheap is for under 10 euro.

Maybe there's also the possibility to use your existing Wi-Fi. This is not a big problem.

Hi, thank you for the answer. I probably did not explain my idea well enough. I have in my apartment "only" 1nen working table on which my PC is built. And with 2 monitors, 1ner keyboard and 1ner mouse is already filled well enough, so I wanted to avoid a docking station. A docking station is actually "only" a small PC, the signals from USB and HDMI & Co. Summarized and passed on to the laptop via a USB port. And that's exactly what I wanted to "downgrade" my desktop PC. A mixture of private and work files I do not see here (or Was not my goal). In itself, I'm looking for a software for my desktop, so that simulated for a connected laptop, a docking station and the keyboard, mouse and monitor signals "just passes through".

No, a docking station is just there to loop through the ports. Depending on the laptop, there are extra docking stations, in which one hangs the laptop.

A standard PC can never become a docking station.

The advantage of a notebook is that you do not need a mouse, keyboard or monitor. That's all there's to it.
