Install 2 operating systems on 2 hard drives, is that possible?

I currently have an old HDD hard drive lying around and a laptop with a SSD hard drive and Windows 10.

Now I want to install Linux on the old hard drive so if I need Linux I can just plug in the hard drive and boot from there.

Is that possible?

It is possible to install both hard drives, each with different operating systems. If you want to boot on your Linux, you just have to change the boot order. You do that when you press f12 (or other keyboard shortcuts that appear when booting up) and then simply select the other disk.

Of course you can also specify that it should boot directly from the Linux disk and only then to the Windows hard disk. If you do not have the Linux hard drive in it, you can't boot from it and take the Windows hard drive.

Now I want to install Linux on the old hard drive so if I need Linux I can just plug in the hard drive and boot from there.

You install only SYSTEM1 on the one hard disk, then you clamp these off to clamp the 2nd hard disk, then you install then SYSTEM2 and done.

Linux can also be installed on an external disk (USB or SATA). So every PC can be booted and operated safely, even if Windows zickt (Win is not needed).
