Windows 10 monitored folder access important or not?

On my laptop (Windows 10) the setting "monitored folder access" is activated and I keep getting messages that always say: "unauthorized changes blocked." In the long run it gets annoying. I thought I switched off the "monitored folder access" setting, but I'm not sure whether this setting is important or not to protect private data, … Etc. Does the setting really bring anything or can you also deactivate it?

It's not important, okay, not important, is wrong, but you don't necessarily need to do it now - it can help in some situations.

So instead of deactivating it, I would simply change the folders that are monitored to e.g. Personal folders like Pictures Videos and not all folders
