I wanted to write an e-mail to the headmaster. Is it right? What would you improve?
Good evening, mister xxx
I currently have a cold and can't currently attend class, as my class has been divided into two groups, so I have even less time to work on the portfolio at school. I don't have the opportunity to work at home because my laptop is broken. I discussed it with my parents, they said that it wasn't worth it for us. I heard that you can borrow laptops or tablets from school. I wanted to ask if there's a possibility to borrow one by Christmas.
Would have done it like this:
Good evening, Mr. Xxx
I currently have a cold and can't currently attend class, as my class has been divided into two groups, so I have even less time to work on the portfolio at school. I discussed it with my parents, they said that it wasn't worth it for us. I heard that you can borrow laptops or tablets from school. I wanted to ask if there was any way I could borrow one by Christmas.
regards

Just a few misspellings! ; )
You are welcome!
There are still some inside: After "Mr. Xxx" comes a comma and then the "I" is written in lower case and after "you meant" comes a comma.
I currently have a cold and for this reason I can't attend classes. Since my class has been divided into two groups, I have even less time to work on the portfolio at school. I dealt with the subject with my parents and we came to the conclusion that it was not worth it for us. I heard that you can borrow laptops or tablets from school. That's why I wanted to find out whether there was an option to borrow a device until Christmas.
regards
But sure you want to write to the headmaster. Most of the time they say yes, "do not contact the headmaster directly". And don't you have to be apologized by your legal guardians?
But do as you mean.
I would write that as shown above. From the point of view of the content I can't judge it, it has nothing to do with the matter, but from the wording, I would find it more elegant. I hope that will fit then. But I find that you don't understand what exactly is not worthwhile, right?
However: Good luck!
Your headmaster doesn't know every student by name and doesn't know by heart which projects are currently running in which class. If you really want to write to him personally, at least tell him what it is about and why you need the calculator. Not because your parents don't want to buy you one, but because you have to design complex layouts and don't have one.
But I would rather try it through the teacher in whose class the portfolio is to be made. Even if he doesn't decide who gets a school device, he can support your wish. Or offer you alternatives.
That's right, thanks for the hint!
