VPN via mobile phone hotspot to the laptop?

As a "tech noob" I have a question for you.

I can set up a VPN on my cell phone via Avast Mobile Security ". Does the VPN still work when I set up a hotspot on my cell phone and connect to the laptop, or does it generate its own IP address again?

Your laptop forwards the "request" on the internet to your mobile phone. Your cell phone then back to the VPN server.

Your calls on the laptop are then also via the VPN.
