Windows 2000 stuck on startup?

I still have an old laptop lying around here at home. I started the setup there and everything was done without any problems. But now comes the Windows 2000 logo, the bars go to the middle and then nothing works! Safe mode also does not start.

I do not know what you can do about it and needed advice.

Wr

In your place I would install Windows 2000 again and format the hard drive beforehand. Cool operating system by the way. I run as a virtual machine and is often more stable than Windows 10.

Im

I've already tried it and it didn't work.

Wr

Have you ever tried another disk? Maybe download the ISO file from the Internet and burn it to a CD. You can take the registration data from your original CD.

(click on manual installation).

Im

Yes, I've already tried it on a CD. I also tested it virtually because it went smoothly

Wr

Then it will probably be the hardware. Maybe the hard drive is faulty. Can be with old computers.

Al

Semiconductors age. I would rather think that the laptop is no longer usable…

Ab

If the setup went through, it seems to me more of a driver problem. And where do semiconductors age when they are not used?

Ab

I would guess that you have driver problems. So why does it have to be Windows 2000?

Better try Windows XP or Linux.

Im

Hm Windows XP or 7 would run without problems. With Windows 2000, which I would rather have, he zicks around.

Al

Aging occurs through physical and chemical interactions with the environment. But of course it can also be a driver problem!

pi

What exactly does "nothing works" mean? The initial setup can take a little time. Did you wait 2 hours

Have you checked the hard drive?

Wr

Why would you prefer 2000 to 7? Is the computer not efficient enough for this? Windows 7 is in my opinion The best and most mature Microsoft OS currently.

Im

Windows XP or 7 runs without problems. Although I would rather have Windows 2000 just because he zicks around during the startup process and just gets stuck.

Im

Hard disk is fine and yes, it has been waiting as long as nothing has happened.

Im

Because Windows 2000 can run older things that no longer run on 7 that's why.

Ab

No oxygen comes to the semiconductors. So I don't see any environmental influences. What interaction do you write about?

Ab

That is the famous needle in the haystack. You can add drivers in the setup. But without knowing which one you need. It's not that easy. Windows XP has an almost identical kernel. Where should 2000 be an advantage?

Wr

Then I recommend that you run a virtual machine on a new computer. This is much easier and then runs smoothly. The VMWare Media Player can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet.

Al

For example ionizing radiation, but also chemical interactions, since there's no 100% purity, neither in the chips themselves nor in the carrier and casing material. But if XP / Win 7 is running, then it is probably some driver…

Ab

Do we agree that today's semiconductors practically do not age?

Al

For the intended lifetime of the chip + a security period, I could apply that.

pi

Too bad. Is that Service Pack 4? How much RAM does the laptop have?
