Tablet for studying, yes or no?

I hear again and again that it should be convenient if you have the slides on the tablet and can take notes directly during the lecture.

To the students: Necessary or unnecessary investment, if you already have a laptop?

If you have such a tablet, which one can you recommend?

I tried everything during my studies… In the end, the tablet has proved to be impractical for me.

In the lectures, paper printouts of the scripts, pens and post-its turned out to be the simplest and best solution. Because you can add comments much faster and easier on paper, connect things with an arrow and mark text passages as on tablet or laptop. This one is then fully in the thing and proven to notice things yes even by marking or writing. On the other hand, using a laptop or tablet is far too much concerned with the technology itself than with the content of the lecture or the script. Select a tool, type a comment, move it to the right place… Change tool, select text and mark, save again and again… Here an incoming e-mail flashes, there the software requires an update… With pen and paper you are on the Essential focused. Many lecturers have said that they feel they are not being listened to because they are fully focused on the monitor.

Also with the subsequent learning I felt my printouts with the marks, comments, references etc. Always very helpful. Was clear when working through at first glance - when working digitally overlooks a note, may have hidden certain things, forgotten to save or whatever. Apart from that, that I can look longer on paper than on a self-luminous monitor.

In addition, I always found it annoying during the lecture when fellow students were constantly clicking around on their laptop or tablet. That gives with many users an enormous noise.

You will not get around a laptop while studying. For Internet research, e-books, for the preparation of presentations, term papers and scientific papers, etc.

First used a Surface for Mitschrifte for a while, but then it turned out for me that I find it easier and better with block and paper.

Great answer, thanks!

Does the university usually offer free printers to print or do you finance it yourself?

al

I had the advantage that my apprenticeship financed my subsequent studies and supported me otherwise well. So I printed a lot in the company. Some but also at home or in the library (fee required). Sometimes I was lucky enough to be able to use the computer science rooms, which also had a printer. But that was rather the exception, otherwise you could print for a fee in the university.

Do you also print the slides in front of it?

an

No, I can tell by my transcripts, which film is about, later I look at the slides on my Surface or mobile phone and compare. Then I roughly summarize the most important of both and that's it.
