Soon the university starts and I've always managed to get along well with my laptop while I was at school. Am now thinking about the new IPad Pro additionally with Appel Pencil for the University to get. Is it worth the money? Especially since a new update for the iPad should come what the file manager supports. Pen and pad would of course become useless.

And you will still use pen and paper in your studies because it just works and is easier.
I think you will get on with the laptop already. There are also tens of programs that do not run on iOS, but on MacOS. I would rather prefer a MacBook.
I would advise you to wait for the first week of study before you give out too much money. You can always buy.

Which laptop do you have? If you have an old one from 2010 that needs 2 minutes to start a program, I would recommend something new to you.
But if you A relatively new MacBook, which is still running well, that's enough. You have most of the programs on the iPad. And much more handy, the iPad is not synonymous.
Besides, you will probably still use paper and pencil one or the other as it is easier.
