I have a question, maybe you can help me.
I recently bought a new laptop and now wanted to connect my DVD player to the laptop (via the HDMI cable.) But somehow I can't do that, can one of you help me?
That is not how it works.
Usually a laptop does not have an HDMI input to display incoming signals on the built-in monitor.
But you can buy an HDMI-USB capture card to display the HDMI "stream" in the VLC media player.
Either it doesn't work or you measure the hdmi output, check input if you use the dvd player as a screen it will most likely not work or the devices can't be coupled
The HDMI socket on the laptop is an output. This allows you to display the laptop's screen signals on an external monitor.
Since there's an output and not an input, you will not be able to connect the DVD player to your laptop in such a way that you can see the films from the DVD player on the laptop.
I have an HDMI input on the PC but somehow it just doesn't work that I can connect it
Just because there's an HDMI port doesn't mean it's an input.
I have never seen a computer / laptop with a built-in HDMI input.
Normally I always get a notification if, for example, I use a USB plug but somehow not with the hdmi
And then how could I do that?
Always just exit
Special external adapter, which you then connect via USB 3.
So do I have to buy such a card for it to work or do I have to buy an app?
Capture Card e.g. https://www.amazon.de/...08H5HB1J4/ as well as the program VLC Media Player
What is the goal? You could only "loop through" the HDMI signal if that is, for example. The graphics card of the laptop supports. That means that if the DVD player plays what it would be given either on a primary or a secondary monitor (primary 1 would then be the one on the laptop). If the graphics card doesn't support this, or the laptop's motherboard doesn't either, then it won't work.
