Which Microsoft tablet for university?

I want to buy a tablet for university because I will be commuting from next semester. So, on the one hand, I want to use the time on the train for preparation and follow-up, and on the other hand, I don't want to lug around any more folders full of paper.

I already own a strong laptop, but with 17 inches, 3 kg and a short battery life it is absolutely not suitable to take with me. Since I already use Windows here, I would like a Microsoft tablet. Gladly used (overhauled), so I save money and the environment.

Conditions:

as I said Windows as the operating system
I don't need any crass programs for video editing or anything like that for my studies, I just have to be able to take notes, create study sheets, use Excel and Word from time to time and read ebooks (pdf).
So I would use the pen more than the keyboard (that's why I have a laptop at home).
In terms of size, I tend to be 12 inches rather than 10.
It is important that the battery survives the unit day and does not run out of power after the first lecture or half the train ride

At the moment the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Pro 5 (2017) seem suitable to me, but I'm not very familiar with technology and am open to suggestions.

Which model can you say from experience that it is good for something?

I have the Surface Book (2, but the third version is already available). Is a very good convertible. I can only recommend it, not just for university.

If you need battery life, you are in bad hands with a used device.

there has to be a new battery either sooner or later.

Why do you need Windows?

I have an iPad 7 and I have to say that it is the best combination for me with Apple Pencil.

I would then advise you to use the iPad Pro, because I don't believe in Microsoft or their devices. In my opinion, these are totally underpowered devices. The thing should hold something!

The Surface Pro 6 is equipped with a newer processor and has a larger battery. This basically makes it through the day, even with the Surface Pro 7, but I would still get a power bank because it's Windows and it's very performance-hungry. Yes, Apple is better on that point, I have to admit that.

But I'm very happy with MY Surface Pro 7. Just know that they get quite warm when you use them.

However, I always had an annoying bug, which I was able to solve by reinstalling the driver. Overall, I can recommend the entire series because Microsoft is not really changing much now.

Note: For the Piwerbank you either need an expensive adapter or the Surface Pro 7, since that is the only one with USB C and the others just don't, so I would tend to go for the Pro 7, because you have no chance without the Surface Dock or Öhnluchem. To charge it and I'm not even sure if that is even possible.

That said, the Surface Pro 6 is more likely to get through the day, but if not, you've screwed up.

Maybe for real OneNote and Microsoft Office to be taken seriously?

Be

Office can also be used on the iPad

Au

You have never looked at the Windows version, have you. The Office version on the iPad is almost as slimmed down as the free version.

Be

Here it shows the iPadOS version I can recommend. I also have it and don't find that there are earth-shattering differences

Be

You also have to pay on the iPad. There may be differences between Android tablets and iPadOS

Au

No, it is exactly the same for all of them and it is less for all of them than in the "real" office. Furthermore, it would make no sense to make a better version for the iPad than for Android, because it is Microsoft.

At least a tablet with a Microsoft system or a Linux distribution. On a tablet, I would actually prefer Windows 10. Definitely not any Android or Apple IOS - they are too limited when it comes to software.

I've already determined that I want Windows. The question is about the model.

Te

But I really only need it for university. I already have a laptop, so I don't need a convertible that combines the disadvantages of a laptop (large, heavy, expensive) with those of a tablet (too small for watching films and for a number keyboard).

Of course it also has advantages, I don't want to deny that, but it's just not what I need.

ma

I understand, it was before the same decision as you, but I think the device combines both positive aspects and is also quite powerful. But of course I understand what you mean. It is also relatively expensive that it would not be worth it for you.

Ca

Win as an operating system no longer exists.
Is normal
Android or iOS from Apple.
Mario

Te

And what do you then call the operating system of the Microsoft Surface devices? 😂

Ca
