I wanted to reset my laptop that I have now sold on eBay classified ads so that all data is gone when I send the laptop away!
now i have started the reset and the laptop has been running for 4 hours. Resetting the system, the value has now stopped at 47% (this value has been there for 1 hour) … The wheel continues to turn. (See image)
I have no idea what to do, does it take so long or what can I do now?
Thanks in advance
LG Leon
What you can do is be patient, wait and read my standard text on the subject in the meantime. Please note the last section!
mchawks text module 15:
Reinstalling or "resetting the system" is not a reset or restart.
This does not eliminate errors - especially in situations in which laypersons tend to use this function: in the event of hardware errors.
This only destroys system logs that could have been analyzed for errors - especially in the case of hardware errors.
The system is also not accelerated or "detoxified". This is just an esoteric effect that is eliminated when you start to reinstall your programs. A lot of work - no effect.
A little research on this platform is also enough to see that the "reset" causes so many problems and also completely excludes users from their system that one should avoid this function better than the devil the holy water.
It is not a DoItYourself solution for laypeople, at best it is the last resort when professionals can't think of anything else. Even then, professionals would reinstall Windows from an installation disc!
By the way, professionals create and use regular backups. You don't need something like "reset".
By the way, "Reset" does not necessarily delete your personal data in such a way that it can't be (partially) restored by professionals. So this function is of little use if the computer is resold.
Hard disk?
SSD?
With a hard disk, depending on how much was on it, it can take quite a while because there's also a lot of small data processed where hard disks are extremely difficult. However, if the part has an SSD, that's really abnormal. For me, a reset with an M.2 PCIe x4 SSD didn't take longer than 15 minutes. Are the fans running high or is it relatively quiet?
This takes up to 24 hours. So yours is perfectly normal.
From about 68% it is normal that things happen very quickly.
So. PATIENCE
That this takes so long is possible in principle since the device is certainly older, but four hours are already a lot in the biggest emergency, you have to take the device off the power and risk that you have to reinstall the Windows or cancel the reset and the Restoring the latest status, but this does not necessarily have to happen. Resetting a PC may always involve the risk that if something goes wrong, the computer has to be set up again
For a resale I recommend you to always reinstall the Windows and format the hard drive completely. You can read out the Windows key with certain programs beforehand
I have installed an HDD, the fans are relatively quiet!
Then just wait and drink tea. Or go to sleep according to the time and let it run. If all of this doesn't help reinstall. Format the hard disk completely during installation. You can download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. So you can put the Windows 10 installation on a stick and install it from there if the computer has no optical drive (CD / DVD)
Oh yes, it takes a while, he's moving from your%, but then it's quick.
With Lenovo laptops, everything takes a little longer.
My daughter also has one - lots of Lenovo-owned software that slows down the system. You hardly notice the fast processor and the 8 GB RAM. I cleaned up by hand on foot and uninstalled various stuff, which didn't do much. I don't expect anything from a reset.
That thing is just shaice. Never again Lenovo
