Using a portable monitor with a USB 2.0 connection as a power source?

I want to connect a second monitor to my laptop. I would like to do without a separate power source, i.e. Supply the monitor with power via USB. All monitors that I have found for this require a connection via USB-C. However, my laptop only has USB 2.0 ports. Can I also supply the monitor with power via USB 2.0? Image and audio signal can be transmitted via VGA or HDMI.

USB 2.0 delivers max. 2.5 watts while USB Type-C already delivers 15 watts.

So you will not get around an external power supply.

USB 2.0 offers 5V with 0.5 Ampere, i.e. 2.5W, which is enough to operate the monitor in stand-by mode, but you won't be able to switch it on with it, USB-C delivers up to 100W, which is sufficient for a monitor.

Less Type-C than USB 3.1

ca

Less Type-C than more USB 3.1, Type-C is just the form factor of the connector type.
USB 3.1 slots with USB-A or special powered USB 3.0 would also suffice.

li

USB 3.1 delivers, according to the specification, only 5V 0.9A, correctly I meant USB-PD which only runs via the USB-C connection.

ca

That's not true. USB-PD is also available via A and B. The female port in particular is often type A, especially on mainboards with a UWB-PD slot

li

But not with 100W, UDB-PD via A and B connections only makes 25W (5V, 5A) and that is not enough for the application mentioned. Windings doesn't really matter because there's no monitor with a USB ≠ C port that can be used to supply power.

You may be right. In the end, I wanted to point out that a USB-C connector alone is not enough.
