However that happened, I just started my laptop (windows 10) and everything is gone. Games are still there, everything that was on the desktop as well, the rest is just gone. My music, pictures, EVERYTHING. Every single file has vanished into thin air, as if I had just bought the laptop, and I was still using it a few hours ago, everything was as usual. I'm still registered on all websites.
I have restarted it several times, switched it off and waited a while before switching it on, unfortunately I'm not very familiar with this area and no longer know what to do. MS Word, Powerpoint etc. Show the files, but when I try to open them I get an error message.
Is everything gone now? Or can you do something there?
Do you have the folders Documents, Pictures, Videos etc. Hanging under your user?
how does your folder structure look like under drive C? Or C: \ Users \?
times use the explorer and enter a filename of a file whose name you surely know and let the computer search for it. If he finds something, you can also see where it is. Maybe Windoofs has moved directories. Wouldn't be the first time something like this happened.
What is the error message?
My wife had the problem 2 times after updates that the access rights were not correct.
After 15-30 minutes they all appeared one by one.
I've now looked for the files, opened the file path and it sends me to where the things should actually be, but only individual things are displayed, and if I look for music in the folder for Groove music, for example, it shows nothing. Unfortunately, this is a laptop that I got from my school, so I can't access all things.
"The directory name is invalid"
You probably don't have admin rights on the laptop? You are probably not allowed to install any private things there, are you?
at least some data is displayed. In general, I would always store private photos, videos and music etc. On external storage media (mass data). There you are usually also protected from Windows antics on drive C.
We're actually allowed to install things, sometimes we even have to.
As described by konzrofl: Open your Explorer, go to c: \ Users \ [profile name] and check whether the desktop folder is still there.
If so, click with the right mouse button on the folder → Properties → Security tab → Groups and users. SYSTEM, administrators and you should have full rights.
If this is not the case, simply change it and also execute it on the subfolders (a window pops up and asks explicitly for it).
Contact your school admin with confidence and they will be able to help you further. I wouldn't use the computer for so long, not that you really lose data.
