Virus / threat on laptop?

My laptop gets messages all the time that viruses / threats have been found. Then when I click on the notification I will be taken to the Windows 'Windows Security' program, where I can see how serious the threat is. I can either quarantine them or remove them. However, this does not always work and still get these messages. Every message also says that it is a 'browser changer'. I don't know what to do, can someone help me?

What does your antivirus program say?

jo

I think I only have Windows Security. It helps that it protects my device from threats.

Br

That is not enough. Download a free software (Avira Antivir e.g.) then do a full systemscan and continue watching

I can only agree with sgtepic. I have avira 2020 and avira antivir on my computer. In contrast to avast, both need less CPU power, but always do well in the tests (also as a free version)

Apparently your antivirus program can't remove the viruses. The safe solution would be to set up the computer again.

It would also be an idea to run the virus scanner in offline mode: "Viruses & threat protection" → Scanotionen → Check by Windows Defender Offline.

The Browerser highjackers are often removed with ADWCleaner.

Don't they cost money?

Gu

No, not the free version. And according to Chip de and Computerbild that is super👍

I recommend creating a Kaspersky Rescue USB Bootstick. This also gets rid of extremely stubborn pests. It works like this:

Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO: https://support.kaspersky.com/de/viruses/krd2018

Then write the downloaded ISO with Rufus https://rufus.ie/ on an empty formatted USB stick
When that's done, just boot the stick and follow the wizard's instructions.
