Yesterday I disassembled my old laptop because it no longer worked properly. However, I removed the hard drive and would like to transfer the data from the old hard drive to my new laptop. So I connected the old hdd to my new laptop via an external adapter, but I can't access the data because it is write-protected and somehow locked. Could it be that I can only access the data on the hard drive with the system on my old laptop? Anyone have any tips?
I thank you in advance.
Since it is read-only and kind of locked
You don't have to write on it. How is it blocked? Do you see the files on it? Does an error message come when you access it? If yes, which? You may want to access a user directory and you are not an administrator now.
Write protection can be removed from a hard disk (https://praxistipps.chip.de/schreibschutz-von-festplatte-entfernen-so-gehts_28239), but write protection is not read protection. Is the hard drive encrypted?
Oops wrong line
Well, when I go to the hard drive, I see users and public, since I've saved everything to users and never to public, everything is on there. I can't get in there anymore because I'm no longer an administrator.
Then you now have to log in with an administrator account.
So through the Windows account or what?
An account with administrator rights. The one who installs Windows is the first administrator. There's also an account called Administrator, which is deactivated by default.
Oh man and how can I log into my new laptop?
You log in every time. If you weren't logged in, you couldn't do anything.
Is there another method if I don't know how to register?
Turn on the laptop. Select user. Enter password.
I can't think of anything else.
