One day ago, my laptop started powering my laptop from the AC adapter making noises (rattling). On closer testing (smell), I found that it smelled of burnt plastic. The power supply is not from HP because this already died. It is unknown which manufacturer it is. The voltage was correct and the power supply was great so far. The thing loads, but makes me still a lot of worries.
Looking forward to answers and experiences.
Edit: ok, now it's over.
The smell of burning already indicates that the thing is not right. The rattle noise can be caused by internal sparking.
You should get a new one soon. After all, there's a risk that the "no-name" -ring with further use lets AC voltage or even full line voltage pass through.
Your power supply rattles and smells of burnt plastic?
Is determined only ne phase, If smells stronger you have to stop 1-2 times more often
