Laptop too old?

I bought a used laptop, a Samsung NC20, and I have a transmission speed of 50000 lines Wi-Fi, this speed is also popular, at least with a newer cell phone. I can't stream and everything takes very slowly. Any idea? The battery is probably not quite right, have the part constantly on the power plug…

The notebook has an AR5007EG chip that can only handle 802.11b / g. This corresponds to a theoretical maximum of 54MBit / s - in practice you can expect about 10% -20% of it. Often, depending on the antenna and reception strength, even less.

The part is URALT. You shouldn't be surprised that nothing works. I have a netbook myself, once bought my sister and I took it from her because I wanted to have something to type, and it's so slow, almost nothing works. In addition, you are unlikely to have much storage space. Is it still Windows XP or 7?

In general, you shouldn't just buy used laptops, you never know what condition it is, and certainly not netbooks.

So then do I need a newer laptop? I'm not really familiar with it and I have very little computer knowledge!

Sh

My laptop has Windows 7 professional on it.

Sh

Can I tune the part somehow or do I need another one?

As an alternative to a new laptop, you can of course also use a USB WLAN stick that supports 802.11 / ac. This one for example: https://www.amazon.de/...B0769DCNJN

A maximum of 2GB RAM can be used in the NC20. Win7 / 32 runs reasonably well, but there are only security updates until the end of January. You can't avoid Windows 10 or Linux. Windows 10 is cruel with 2 GB.

The NC20 runs with a via nano processor that has only one core. It feels awfully slow.

Before you make the device, which was already very weak in 2009, faster with an external WLAN stick in the network, you should rather buy a clever used one: Lenovo X230, i5, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD, Win10 Professional is available for 200 euro.

I just read your comment, you're probably right. But I almost only understand the train station. I just want to stream when I want to watch films, get photos of pictures into the computer, have a website and set the pictures that I paint or call photographic art on various platforms. I would have to get a tripod tomorrow or the day after, then I take pictures. I have time, a mission and I like mopeds. That means film, photo and text = plasticine! The thank you button refuses to say thank you to me or others. There's a red traffic sign with cross bars…

You can only click once on a thank you button.

If the processor has only one core, it also has to take care of Windows updates, the virus scanner and other jobs during the streaming. So the film will stall. With 2 cores this is much more fun. You can certainly collect and view photos on the old computer. But always think of backups, because hard drives are fragile.
