My first laptop that I have to share with my mother?

Hi
3

As you can easily see above, I have to share my first laptop with my mom because she has a broken, virus infected Windows Vista PC. This idea is just terrible, so I persuaded her to divide the laptop into two accounts. My questions would be now: If I would use the admin account and you have a normal user account, what restrictions there exactly in the user account? Would it really be so dangerous / inappropriate to use the admin account? Is it possible to access files or programs of other user accounts from user accounts or if I install a program on a user account or admins account, will it then be usable on other accounts?

Thank you in advance, by the way, will be a Windows 10 laptop.

You can use the administrator account or better set up your own account with administrator rights.

Your mother also gets her own account without admin rights.

Your mother only sees her own files, can use by default all the programs you install (all users can always use all programs).

However, you can exclude certain users from using them in the security properties of programs.

You can see all the data, including your mother's.

I would install a Linux distribution on the Vista PC. For example, Lubuntu. It even requires less system resources than Windows Vista. In addition, there's no support for Windows Vista and there are no more current web browsers on it. With Lubuntu you can run current web browsers (like Firefox). Here is the download: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...p-i386.iso This is the current stable long-term support version.

Burn the ISO to a blank DVD with this http://www.freeisoburner.com/ tool. Then boot the burned DVD on the Vista PC. Just follow the instructions of the installer. It offers the possibility to completely delete the hard disk. I recommend a full installation. You should also choose third-party software. The latest Firefox, Libreoffice, multimedia components and tools will be installed right away. After completing the installation and the first reboot, the Update Manager will appear at the bottom of the taskbar. One should install these updates.

How to install programs: Start Menu> System Tools> Software. This is like an Appstore and is also served.

For licensing reasons, the Flash Player is not installed right away. You can easily install it. Go to the start menu> system tools> LXTerminal. Enter the following and conclude with Enter:

sudo apt install flashplugin-installer -y

This installs a script that automatically downloads and installs the latest Flashplayer from the Adobe page. The Microsoft fonts are also available for Linux. Enter the following and conclude with Enter:

sudo apt install ttf -mscorefonts-installer -y

The update manager takes care of all installed programs and the system. You do not have to update every single program like with Windows. The updating can also be completely automated so that it runs in the background.

Lubuntu goes off like a rocket. By comparison, Vista is a lame duck.

Just install a modern virus-safe and free Linux Mint on the infected computer. Simply download Mint XFCE, burn it, boot from it → then save the data (on USB pen) and press on the desktop INSTALL.

Mint is as easy to use as Vista and well suited for every beginner, so my experience.

Mint does not need a virus scanner, no payment programs and no payment key.
